¡Bomba! at the Seoul International Drum Festival
in Korea! (Oct 7-10, 2006)
Latin/world music group ¡Bomba! are elated to be in
Korea this weekend for the Seoul International Drum Festival.
Mario Allende, Chris Andrew, Rubim de Toledo and Emilio Rios
traveled from Edmonton to Korea, and were joined there by
their artistic compañeros from Cuba- Raul Gomez Tabera,
Neraldo Duran Torriente, and Livan Morejon Quian.
Now in its 7th year, this Drum Festival in the teeming capitol
city of South Korea is a culture and art festival with various
indoor and outdoor events. All performances showcase many
different types of percussion instruments and styles from
around the world.
Developed as a world-wide culture and art festival, The Seoul
Drum Festival demonstrates the true meaning of an "Open
Street Festival" where the audience can participate in
many events and join with performers during the festival.
During Alberta Scene in Ottawa last May, talent buyers from
Seoul attended ¡Bulla!, the Afro-Cuban jazz dance theater
production by Decidedly Jazz Danceworks. So taken were they
with the percussion performance by ¡Bomba! in the show,
the band was invited to the festival to perform.
¡Bomba! are thrilled to have three performances at
the 3-day festival, and are excited at the prospect of connecting
with artists from around the world. ¡Bomba! will be
featuring songs from their latest CD, Entre Sol y Luz. |
